12 Hour or 24 Hour Stream Tips (2024)

As a gamer, playing games for long periods of time sounds normal. So when you add streaming into the mix, it sounds like a fun filled day, right?

Yes, it defiantly can be! To have a great time, there needs to be a lot of planning before the stream. Unlike gaming for hours, a streamer has a lot more things to plan for than a normal long day of games. Even the big shot streamers do some planning as they stream day to day. When gaming on your own, little things like drinks, food, and bathroom breaks seem like no big deal cause you can do them when ever. You can also be in any mood you like depending on how the games go. Streaming on the other hand, you might want to keep things entertaining, and do something different than you normally would when gaming. Below are some point to consider when planning for your 12 hour or 24 hour stream event.

Make A Gaming Schedule

A schedule is the most important thing for the stream as it helps the viewers know which games you are playing when. Even if you think you can play one or two games, try adding more. Having multiple games at set times helps you stay fresh, and let's your viewers turn in when the want to see certain games. It also helps give you planned breaks to reset, refresh, and do what you need while switching games.

Your Health Comes First

As hinted in "Making A Gaming Schedule", you need to take breaks. Listen to your body and don't feel bad if you need to throw up a "Be right back" scene. Have water nearby and drink it! Keeping hydrated is key to your well-being. It also helps you take a second during stream to think about what you may want to say next. Public speakers do this trick to help them reset and think while not causing a stop in there speech.

You also need to eat, as food is your source of energy. Coffee and sugary energy drinks are not going to cut it. If any, they will give you a burst of energy quickly and make you even more tired soon after the high burns out. If you don't want to eat on stream, take a few minutes to eat an apple or something healthy during your breaks. Your body will thank you.

Lastly, get up, stretch, and go to the bathroom! You are human, and you are not meant to be sitting for long periods of time without movement and relieving yourself. So when nature calls either during a planned break, or mid game. Don't be worried to throw up that "Be right back" scene and step away for a few minutes.

Keep It Fun

The real entertainment is based on your stream being fun. If you are having fun, then it will shows and your viewers will probably have fun too. You want to still do what you would as if it was a normal stream. So keep thanking people, keep interacting with chat, keep being you. You can also spice things up for the stream by doing a charity event and/or giveaways. What ever you thing will be fun add-ons, do it!

You should not worry about view counts, number of chatters, or a random troll. As if these things discourage you, then figure a way on how you are going to handle them and bounce back. Tilt in game can also be a factor, which is why having multiple games lined up could help keep you moving forward.

Again, have fun! You are doing the stream because you are going to enjoy it.

Plan Your Sleep

You will need to plan your sleep schedule and stream start time so that you are ready to go without feeling too tired. Get some good rest days before, and try to set the stream start time right when you wake up. Otherwise, that 24 hour stream has turned into a 36 hour day.

The other options is you plan your stream after a normal day, but you take a good nap first. then you can go about your normal day, get some sleep, stream, and then get a good nights rest without messing up your sleep schedule.

Test Everything

Make sure everything is ready for the whole 24 hours. Make sure your equipment and hardware are setup they way it should be or easily accessible. Any games your are planning to play are at the ready, updated, and working. Check that all your transitions and scenes are looking good and easy to go between (Game play, Be right back, Switching game, etc.). Even setup an area for your food and drinks and verify that it wound be something you may accidentally hit! All this preparation might seem a little silly but the worst thing to do is look silly on camera or have to kill your stream to help setup things.

Make It a Big Deal

This is no easy feat so hype the idea up and plan the day weeks ahead of time. Then take to all your social media ways to amp up the hype. That will get your viewers and new viewers to join you. Let them know the schedule you planned so the can see what is happening when during the stream. The more you amp it up, the more of a turnout you can see. Some may join you for all 24 hours as well since they were able to plan for the time alongside your schedule.

Extras

The main points you need to worry about above so here is a section of small bullet points to consider.

  • TreatStream - Great way to get food delivered to you

  • Don't Drink Adult Beverages - At least not early on

  • Find a few min stretch and exercise routine for breaks
